Dear Parents / Carers

Reminder: John Clare School Staff Car Park – Parents are not permitted to use the John Clare Staff Car Park between 8.00am and 4.00pm. Please can you ensure anyone dropping off or collecting your child is also aware of these restrictions. Many thanks.

This Week – This week we had a Chinese New Year theme with a Chinese restaurant role play, food tasting, and colouring sheets. On Wednesday we had a Burns night theme making the Scottish flag with tissue paper and Loch Ness monster colouring sheets.
Monday – Craft Club – The children continued to celebrate Chinese New Year by making their very own fortune cookies including their own secret messages inside.
Tuesday – Science Society – We investigated melting ice. We used salt, sugar, and sand to see which of them melted the ice the quickest.
Wednesday – Movie & Animation – The children watched Ice Age 4 Continental Drift whilst enjoying their popcorn. We had two groups of animators this week. One of our groups used Lego mini figures and the other group was inspired by shells and underwater toys.
Thursday – Forest school & Den building – We were a little dirty as we collected mud and mixed it with water. We had some amazing results and great examples of Chinese letter writing.
Friday – Baking – Later today we will be we will be making apple muffins. The children will be weighing their ingredients and for this recipe they will need to grate their apples.

Next week – Here are some of our planned activities for next week in the OOSC.

Monday – Craft Club – We will be crafting with kitchen rolls, and we will be making different animals using the rolls and other resources.
Tuesday – Science Society – We will be making snowstorms in jars.
Wednesday – Movie & Animation – The children will be watching SantaMan, although a little late it has a great storyline! We are investigating how we can take our animating further to add music, speech and writing to our films.
Thursday – Forest School & Den Building – We will be out in the fresh air with hammers and nails; the children can create animals or other creations using the available resources.
Friday – Baking – We will be making focaccia bread with the options to add sun dried tomatoes, olives and maybe some rosemary or garlic.

Have a lovely weekend!
Kind regards
The Playhouse Team
