Dear Parents / Carers

COVID Update:
Here is the link to the latest Government Guidance for OOSC Settings: Guidance for parents and carers of children attending out-of-school settings during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
Children & PCR tests – If your child has a PCR test or tests positive on a lateral flow, please can you let us know and please confirm the result. Thank you.

This Week –
It has been another exciting week in the OOSC this week, and we have also had lots of junk modelling and construction activities taking place. There has been lots of drawing, colouring and the pool table has been available every day. In the garden the children have been using the outdoor construction toys and playing football.

Monday – Forest School – We hunted around our Forest school garden for our pebbles, lots were partially hidden but the children loved hunting around for them. The pebbles were washed and dried; the children painted their pebbles, creating lovely designs to bring home. We’ve painted rainbows, trees, brightly coloured patterns and even a football pitch!
Tuesday – Science Society –
This week we undertook an experiment to ‘see’ sound. To do this we stretched plastic tightly over plastic bowls and used tape and elastic bands to hold in place. Then we placed rice and lentils on top of the plastic. We then held large saucepans near (but not touching) the bowls and hit them with wooden spoons. This made sound waves which caused the rice and lentils to jump around on the plastic. The children loved making and testing this experiment!
Tuesday – Gaming –
This week we saw some amazing teamwork and sharing from our KS2 gamers! As a group they decided to play Mario Cart as it was a two-player game, they picked their partner and took turns in having a go! Great spectating too from those waiting their turn!
Wednesday – Cinema Circle – This week the children loved watching ‘Pirates in an Adventure with Scientists’. There was lots of giggling! We all worked together to make a huge, Helpston pirate map, it stretched across the Playhouse floor. The children had lots of fun role playing being pirates and hunting for the lost Helpston treasure!
Thursday – Den Building – We had ‘themed’ dens this week and the children were inspired to make ‘alternative’ hideouts: we had a dinosaur camp, a spa retreat with lots of relaxing cushions, a library with its quiet space for reading!  The children waited patiently for their pancakes to cook on the firepit. Our favourite topping was golden syrup!
Thursday – Animating –
This week we used the Lego mini figures, as requested by our animators. The children are now very competent using the software and their understanding of how stop/start animation works. This week they had very little adult support or influence. Jewel thieves were once again the choice for their storylines.
Friday –Baking – This afternoon in our baking session we will be making plain scones. We hope you have a lovely afternoon tea with jam and cream at home.

Next Week – Next week we continue with our themed activities. We will also be caring for our garden wildlife, making sure they have food and water.

Monday – Forest School – We will have a woodworking theme in our Forest school next week. We will be using hammers and nails to make our very own hedgehogs. The children can bring home their very own creations.
Tuesday – Science – It will be a ‘windy’ session next week. We will be investigating wind when we make our very own paper windmills.
Tuesday – Gaming – The Nintendo switch and other games will be available for the children to play with. Encouraging teamwork and sharing!
Wednesday – Cinema Circle –
We will be watching The Lego Movie 2 – The Second Part. Here’s hoping that everything is awesome! Will our Lego Heroes save the universe? We will have lots of Lego and Duplo building activities, let’s see who can be our master builders and who can save our very own Playhouse universe?
Thursday – Den Building – This week our dens will be constructed as ‘classrooms’ with lots of fun learning! This weeks theme has been requested by the children .. who are our budding teachers? Our teachers will be able to help their students bake chocolate chip cookies on the campfire!
Thursday – Animation – Next week we will be using playdough in our film making. The children could create their very own playdough characters or model scenes with the playdough and supporting props!
Friday – We will be baking Tortilla Quiches; we will use tortillas instead of pastry this week and the children will be able to choose from various fillings to make their own quiche. A lovely home time snack!
Outside activities all week: There will be connect 4, giant Duplo, the mud kitchen, construction vehicles, football and Meccano.
