Dear Parents / Carers
Reminder: John Clare School Staff Car Park – Parents are not permitted to use the John Clare Staff Car Park between 8.00am and 4.00pm.
Reminder: Absence & Pick-ups – If your child is unable to attend any of our sessions, including Early Bird and/or Breakfast Club or there is a change to pick up, please make sure you let us know so that we can ensure the safety of your child. Please also update John Clare if your child is at Primary school.
This Week – We used fallen leaves to make Autumn wreaths this week and made chocolate playdough which smelled really good. The pool table and table tennis have been out throughout the week, and we’ve had construction and vehicles out to play with.
Monday – Craft Club – The children carefully assembled their grass characters using tights, sawdust (or soil), and grass seed. Google eyes were added to bring the characters to life!
Tuesday – Science Society – We used layers of PVA glue and sand to have a go at 3D printing. It takes a few days for the glue to dry and harden so we haven’t been able to see if it’s work! Fingers crossed!
Wednesday – Animation – Our animators used potato heads for this week’s film making.
Wednesday – Cinema Club – The children enjoyed watching The Smurfs this week whilst snacking on their popcorn. The older children decided they would like to watch Matilda; they had their own viewing in the office area.
Thursday – Forest school & Den building – Alongside our den building this week we built a great fire and roasted marshmallows. We sandwiched the marshmallows between chocolate biscuits to make smores! The children were great at taking turns to roast their marshmallows. Some of the children foraged around the garden for leaves, they made ‘Autumn Wreaths’ using paper plates as their base.
Friday – Baking – Later today we will be making a snack to bring home and bake; the children will be making their own ‘tomato sauce’; they will start with a tomato base, adding ingredients of their choice. They will add this to their nachos to make their nacho bake with grated cheese.

Next week – Here are some of our planned activities for next week in the OOSC.
Monday – Craft Club – We will be making pom pom hedgehogs from wool.
Tuesday – Science Society – In our science session we will be colour mixing with a difference, we will be using paper towels to transfer coloured water from cup to cup.
Wednesday – Animation & Cinema Club – In our movie club, the children will be watching The Rise of Gru. Our Animators will be using resources from the Playhouse to create their films. What will they decide to use?
Thursday – Forest school & Den Building and KS2 Gaming – The children will be making their very own version of an ‘Autumn Leaf Kebab’ using leaves and sticks from the garden. We will also be den building.
Friday – Cookery club – It’s Pudsey Day on Friday so we will be making our own Pudsey cookies. The children will be weighing and mixing their ingredients, making their cookies, and decorating them ready to bring home.
