Hot Lunches
Hot lunches are available for children and are freshly prepared by John Clare Primary School. The menu runs on a three-week rotating cycle, offering a variety of balanced meals. Meals can be booked for the full term or on a weekly basis, with bookings made on Monday mornings. Please note that hot lunches are not compulsory, and children are very welcome to continue bringing a packed lunch from home if preferred.
The cost of a hot lunch is £2.61 per meal.
In line with funding regulations, Government funding cannot be used to pay for hot lunches, therefore these must be paid for separately by parents or carers.
Packed Lunch
At our setting we encourage healthy eating and support children in developing positive habits around food and wellbeing. As part of this, we ask that packed lunches provided from home are healthy, balanced and nutritious, in line with early years healthy eating recommendations.
A balanced lunch helps children stay focused, energised and ready to learn throughout the afternoon. Good options may include items such as sandwiches, wraps or pasta, alongside fruit, vegetables and other wholesome foods.
To help keep food fresh and safe until lunchtime (approximately 12:00pm), we recommend placing an ice pack in your child’s lunch box.
Please also ensure that your child brings water to drink. We understand that some children prefer juice; if this is the case, we kindly ask that it is well diluted.
Supporting children to learn about healthy lifestyles and dental care is an important part of our curriculum. We talk with the children about foods that help keep our bodies strong and our teeth healthy.
We recognise that children enjoy an occasional sweet treat and we support them in understanding the idea of balance and moderation. However, in line with our healthy eating approach, we kindly ask that sweets and confectionery are not included in lunch boxes. We are a nut free setting.
