Google Review – If you could spare a couple of minutes, please could you add a review onto Google for us. Thank you. https://g.page/r/Cb_j7ikLWhtLEBI/review
OOSC – Parent & Child feedback – Further to our communication on 20th April, please could you help us by providing some feedback so that we continue to provide a service that meets your child’s needs. During the last term we have introduced new OOSC activities to give your children the best possible experience and opportunities to try new things. We would love to hear your thoughts on the activities already on offer and give you the chance to put forward any ideas or things you feel would be of benefit to your children during their time in OOSC.
Please answer the following questions and feedback to Natalie Venters (our OOSC Rep) via email on nataliemitchell@sky.com:
- What OOSC sessions does your child currently attend?
- Are you and your child happy with this new service we are offering?
- Do you feel our current range of activities is enough for your child?
- Are there any other activities you would like to see included within our provision?
Any additional feedback and comments is gratefully appreciated.
Cookery Club – If your child attends the Cookery Club on a Friday, please can you send in your child with a named container. Many thanks.
Fabric – Do you have any spare fabric? We will soon be making fabric flowers in our Craft club and need off cuts of fabric approx. 6 inches in diameter. If you have any fabric, please don’t hesitate to bring it in. Many thanks.
This Week – We wrapped up warm and ventured outside into the garden to enjoy the cooler weather this week. All our clubs took place outside, but we also had lots of other outdoor games and activities taking place.
Monday – KS2 Woodwork & Construction – We started our bird boxes this week. All the pieces were pre-cut, so we started to sand the cut edges to make them smother. We stood all the pieces up to make sure they fitted together before we started gluing. As soon as they were glued, we started hammering in the nails. We will continue with these in our next session.
Science Society – We were using water this week and looked at water forces! We started by making a hole near the bottom of a plastic bottle, we put tape over the hole. We filled the bottle with water and put the lid on. The children predicted the water would pour out of the bottle when the tape was removed but when we took it off nothing happened. We then took the lid off, and the water started pouring out. We talked about the water being unable to flow out until there was air at the top of the bottle to replace the water.
For our second experiment we cut out three holes near the bottom of a plastic bottle, taped over them and filled the bottle with water. The children couldn’t quite predict the outcome: When the tape was removed, no water came out of the top hole, a little from the middle and a lot from the bottom one. This is because the water above pushes the water down and out through the bottom hole.
Wednesday – Gardening & Forest School – We cleared the garden from weeds and then planted some vegetables: carrots, peas, and beetroot. We then sprinkled wildflower seeds onto the grass.
Thursday – Den Building – Our theme this week was ‘Fairies’ and ‘Warriors’. Our warriors created a camouflage den around the tree. While some built the den the others prepared ‘food’ to feed them and keep them going! Magic potions and dinosaur medicines were created for the fairy den using leaves and flowers from the garden.
Thursday – Craft Club – We weaved around a template to make a bowl or cup using wool and ribbons. This was quite a tricky project!
Friday – Baking – This afternoon we will be making rocky road cake using biscuits, chocolates, syrup, and marshmallows.
Next Week – We will have a lot of outdoor activities and we’ll be making the most of our garden!
Tuesday – Science Society – We will be making magic spinners to see if we can turn bright colours white!
Wednesday – Gardening & Forest School – We will be working on our fairy garden, and we will start on our new dinosaur garden area. We will be making mini wigwams and items for our two garden areas using twigs and string.
Thursday – Den Building – The children will be creating their own cosy dens, so they have a comfortable ‘storytelling zone’. The children can select books from our library, they can read to their friends or to themselves to it and relax in their own space.
Thursday – Craft Club – We will be making dragonflies using pipe cleaners and coloured beads.
Friday – Baking – We will be making jam and lemon curd tarts. The children will be rolling out pastry, they will be using cutters, they will fill with jam or curd and add decorations if they wish!
Outside activities all week: There will be connect 4, giant Duplo, the mud kitchen, construction vehicles, football, and Meccano.
Have a lovely weekend!
Kind regards
The Playhouse Team
