Children & PCR tests – If your child has a PCR test or tests positive on a lateral flow, please can you let us know and please confirm the result. Thank you.
This Week – It’s been another busy week of activities in the Playhouse. The pool table has been out throughout the week and has been enjoyed by lots of children. In the garden football continues to be the favourite outdoor activity. There has been construction and building activities and outside games such as Connect 4.
Monday – Forest School – We had a fire themed session this week, the children collected sticks from the garden, we talked about how to construct their fire and being safe around it; they made their fire and took turns to light it. It started to burn well so the children added a pan of baked Beans to heat up. They enjoyed baked beans and jacket potatoes!
Tuesday – Science Society – This week we were looking at how to transfer patterns onto paper and had great fun using shaving foam to achieve this. We started by squirting shaving foam onto trays then used knives to create a flat surface. We then placed drops of food colouring on top of the foam and used sticks and knives to create swirly patterns. We placed thick paper onto the foam and gently pressed it down over the pattern. After removing the paper, we quickly scraped off the excess shaving foam (we used rulers to do this) to reveal the patterns. They looked beautiful! We learned the trick to achieving good patterns was not to over stir the colours or it just turned the shaving foam into that colour – we ended up with a lot of green shaving foam!
Tuesday – Gaming – Mario is still the most popular game. There’s been lots of teamwork and sharing!
Wednesday – Cinema Circle – This week we watched The Secret Life of Pets! We had our own Vets role play and we made animals for the vets using playdough. Some of the children enjoyed some creative time colouring animal pictures.
Thursday – Den Building – In our Den building this week the children’s dens were freestyle with resources being collected form the garden. The dens were constructed really quickly this week.
Thursday – Animating – This week was a little different, Oscar helped Rosanna understand animation, his knowledge was amazing, and he loved taking the lead. Oscar decided to have a dinosaur theme, more children joined in as the dinosaurs started to fight. The children were able to tell Rosanna all about carnivores and herbivores. Rowan and Ethan had great fun with the carnivores as they started to eat each other, and they continued to animate them for quite a while, they didn’t want to stop! Don’t forget to take a look on facebook for the video!
Friday – Baking – This afternoon in our baking session we will be baking our very own heart shaped Valentines pizza’s. The children in Breakfast club this morning helped make our pizza dough. We will be making our own passata and topping our pizzas with toppings of our choice.
After half term – After half term we continue with our themed activities. We will also be caring for our garden wildlife, making sure they have food and water and we’ll be looking for signs of spring.
Monday – Forest School – We will be making our very own woodland stars and/or letters from twigs and resources found in the garden. The children will be able to paint them and decorate them with ribbons and wool.
Tuesday – Science – This week we will be looking at propulsion and we will be making paper rockets using a basic template. They can modify their rockets with different wing styles. We will use straws to see how far we can make them fly. We’ll see if the rocket needs to be symmetrical and does this affect the distance travelled. We’ll use a measuring tape wo measure the distance.
Tuesday – Gaming – The Nintendo switch and other games will be available for the children to play with. Encouraging teamwork and sharing!
Wednesday – Cinema Circle – We will be watching Raya and the Last Dragon. The film follows Raya, a warrior princess who must find the fabled last dragon in order to save her divided home world from a ravenous plague. The children will be making their own dragon bookmark.
Thursday – Den Building – This week we will have a hideout them for our dens and we’ll be using foliage and sticks to make our den’s invisible .. just in case those barbarians strike again!!
Thursday – Animation – The children will continue to develop their skills.
Friday – Baking – We will be making peppermint creams dipped in chocolate this week. The children will be weighing and mixing their ingredients and will shape their creams into rounds.
Outside activities all week: There will be connect 4, giant Duplo, the mud kitchen, construction vehicles, football and Meccano.
Have a lovely Half term!
Kind regards
The Playhouse Team
