This Week – We had a lovely week outside in the garden enjoying the beautiful weather this week. We’ve had lots of activities taking place outdoors, including our planned activities, as well as the usual football, Swingball, construction and mud kitchen.
Monday – Forest School – This week we used a variety of tools to create robots and caterpillars. We used hammers, nails, and different shapes of wood. We also whittled down the bark on our wood with a potato peeler; great fun!!
Tuesday – Science Society – This week we made paper helicopters to by carefully cutting and folding paper. Our first attempts with short, wide blades didn’t work very well so we made some adjustments by making the blades longer and narrower; this made our helicopters spin a lot better, they were faster and went further too! The children learnt that the helicopters spin because as they fall air pushes against the blades making them turn in opposite directions. The children had great fun!
Tuesday – Gaming – Mario is still the most popular game. There’s been lots of teamwork and sharing!
Wednesday – Cinema Circle – The children watched Inside Out this week. We encouraged the children to talk about they are feeling; they talked about being happy and how it makes them feel good, but they also talked about being sad and sometimes a little scared and worried; we explained it’s ok to feel sad, scared and worried sometimes and it’s important to talk about it.
Thursday – Den Building – The children should be very proud of themselves this week; their jungle themed dens went up quickly and expertly. They created great hideouts and enjoyed role play using monkeys, cheetahs, bears, tigers, and snakes. Some of our children even foraged in the garden to feed their ‘wild pets’!
Thursday – Animating – Our animators went outside again this week when they set up a train track and filmed moving trains. We even had dinosaurs chasing trains in one of our films … amazing!!
Friday – Baking – This afternoon in our baking session we will be making fruit kebabs, there will be lots of fresh fruit available for the children to cut into pieces and thread onto skewers.
Next week – We continue with our themed activities, and we will also have an Easter theme, with lots of Easter activities and craft.
Monday – Forest School – We will search our garden to find our resources … we will be looking for wood where we can remove the bark with our peelers, and we will be shaping them into magic wands. We will be decorating them with paint and ribbons.
Tuesday – Science – We have an egg-citing activity planned for next week. The children will be tasked with designing a way to transport an egg from the top to the bottom of a zip wire. It could get messy!!
Tuesday – Gaming – The Nintendo switch and other games will be available for the children to play with. Encouraging teamwork and sharing!
Wednesday – Cinema Circle – We will be watching The Gruffalo’s Child this week and the children will be able to create their own Gruffalo and Gruffalo child puppets for their very own adventure role play.
Thursday – Den Building – Next week we will have a ‘river’ and ‘fishing’ theme. We will create ‘fishing hideouts’; the children will be relaxing after their busy den building. They can pretend they are quiet and calm by the river while they try to catch fish and enjoy the peaceful river surroundings!
Thursday – Animation – Next week we are hoping for another lovely sunny day, we will be out in the garden to see what we can use to create our films. What will next week’s films be??
Friday – Baking – We will be making Chocolate Easter nests. We will break up shredded wheat into a bowl, we will add melted chocolate and the children will mould them into cake cases to create their nests. Small eggs will be added for that finishing touch!
Outside activities all week: There will be connect 4, giant Duplo, the mud kitchen, construction vehicles, football, and Meccano.
Have a lovely weekend!
Kind regards
The Playhouse Team
