Dear Parents / Carers
COVID – If your child tests positive for COVID via an LFD or PCR, please can you let us know. Thank you.
Change to OOSC Session time – We are still seeing the effects of lockdown in the OOSC and with many parents still working at home, our 5.30pm – 6.00pm session has not been financially viable for some time. With effect from the Summer Term, it’s with deepest regret but 5.30pm will be our latest pick-up time.
KS1 Trip to Woburn – If your child is going on the KS1 trip to Woburn, please can you confirm arrangements for your child especially if you will be collecting them from the coach.
John Clare – Summer Term Clubs – Please can you let us know if your child is booked to attend any of the Sports clubs.
This Week – With the chicks no longer with us we were back to normal this week in the OOSC. The beautiful weather has seen us spending lots of time outside – even our science and animation clubs moved outdoors. The mud kitchen, football, cricket, and construction have all been in use this week. Inside, the pool table, darts and loom bands have been popular. We even had Knex limbo!
Monday – Forest School – We made mini worm farms this week from clear plastic bottles. We searched the garden for gravel, soil and plants for our bottles and then we went on a worm hunt .. they were everywhere!! We also talked about how earthworms help our soil, their diet, and their behaviour.
Tuesday – Science Society – This week we were painting with water and salt, and we looked at how the salt reacts. We painted on card using thick paint and watery paint; we sprinkled salt over the paint. There was an immediate reaction on the paint as the salt absorbed some of the water and started to dissolve. There was less of an effect on the thick paint as there wasn’t as much water. The salt and the watery paint made some lovely, pretty patterns.
Tuesday – Gaming – Mario is still the most popular game. There’s been lots of teamwork and sharing!
Wednesday – Cinema Circle – The children loved watching Dumbo this week. The children were given the opportunity to draw their own elephant which they could colour it in or use mosaics. The younger children used printed elephants .. great colouring this week!
Thursday – Den Building – The children loved their ‘Sleepover’ theme this week, some brought in their Pj’s! They made their dens cosy and relaxing. They also cooked up their tea in the mud kitchen!
Thursday – Animating – We took our animators outside this week, and we used our dinosaurs in the garden. The plants and rocks made a great natural backdrop for our reptile rampages! Please take a look on facebook!
Friday – Baking – This afternoon in our baking session we will be making sausage rolls; we’ll be rolling out flaky pastry and we’ll be adding our sausages ready to roll up and bake!!
Next week – We continue with our themed activities. We will also be caring for our garden wildlife, making sure they have food and water and we’ll be looking for more signs of spring.
Monday – Forest School – We will be having a woodwork session next week. We will be using a variety of tools to create robots, animals or other items decided by the children. We will use hammers, nails, and different shapes of wood. We will use sandpaper to smooth off our designs.
Tuesday – Science – Next week we will be cutting and folding paper to make helicopters. We will be thinking about the shape and size of the blades and testing them to see which designs work the best!
Tuesday – Gaming – The Nintendo switch and other games will be available for the children to play with. Encouraging teamwork and sharing!
Wednesday – Cinema Circle – We will be watching Inside Out next week. This film is all about emotions.
We will encourage the children to talk about they are feeling, and they can draw pictures of ‘what makes them happy’.
Thursday – Den Building – Next week we will have a jungle theme, we will use foliage to hide our dens and we’ll bring out our monkeys, cheetahs, bears, tigers, and snakes.
Thursday – Animation – Next week we are hoping for another lovely sunny day, we will be out in the garden to see what we can use to create our films.
Friday – Baking – We will be making fruit kebabs, there will be lots of fresh fruit available for the children to cut into pieces and thread onto skewers.
Outside activities all week: There will be connect 4, giant Duplo, the mud kitchen, construction vehicles, football, and Meccano.
Have a lovely weekend!
Kind regards
The Playhouse Team
