Baking – If your child is baking with us on a Friday, please bring in a named container, thank you.
Plastic bottles – If you have any empty clear squash bottles, pop bottles, approx. 2 litres, please can you bring them in for Monday’s Forest school session. Thank you.
This Week – The chicks have been a huge hit in the OOSC with the children really enjoying holding them and some of our children have even helped to clean, feed, and water them. It will be sad when we say goodbye to them today. Our clubs have been ongoing this week, but we have had lots of outdoor fun with cricket, Swingball, outdoor construction and gardening. There was also a blindfolded chalk challenge. Inside watching the chicks has occupied a lot of time but there has been colouring, construction, board games and the snooker table out to play with.
Monday – Forest School – We had some great challenges this week. We tried to draw, blindfolded; we managed to write our names. For one of our other challenges, we made scrunched up paper balls and tried to keep them in the air as long as possible. We then pretended we were on a bush tucker trial and used our imagination to pretend the food items were horrible items, we had crocodile eyes (olives); blood worms (strawberry laces); lambs’ ears (apricots); Rowan and Millie loved it so much they asked to run this session. We then made an obstacle course from crates; the children had to guide their friends around the course as they were blindfolded .. the children worked well together building on trust with their partners.
Tuesday – Science Society – This week we were investigating light and shadows. After cutting our shapes we went into the darkness of the sensory room and used a torch to create shadows on the wall. As light doesn’t bend our shadows had the same shape as the card cut outs. We also thought about uses for shadows; had on a hot day and telling the time with a sundial.
Tuesday – Gaming – Mario is still the most popular game. There’s been lots of teamwork and sharing!
Wednesday – Cinema Circle – The children loved watching Nanny McPhee. The film made them think about their grandparents, they said and wrote some wonderful things about them and why they love them.
Thursday – Den Building – This week we had a wooden castle and adapted this into a den theme. We made flags to add to the dens. We cooked popcorn on the fire by sprinkling the corn into our pan and stirring in some oil. We all enjoyed our popcorn snack!
Thursday – Animating – Rowan very kindly brought in some of his Lego mini figures. We had knights, archers and even a ghost! Our animators made an amazing film about sword fighting knights and skateboarding under the sea! Please take a look on facebook!
Friday – Baking – This afternoon in our baking session we will be making Dough balls filled with garlic and /or cheese. The children will be making their dough using flour, oil and water and will fill their dough balls with cheese and/or garlic butter.
Next week – We continue with our themed activities. We will also be caring for our garden wildlife, making sure they have food and water and we’ll be looking for signs of spring.
Monday – Forest School – We will be making a mini worm farm. We’ll be learning about how earthworms help our soil, their diet, and their behaviour.
Tuesday – Science – Next week we will be painting with salt and we’ll see how the salt reacts with the paint. We are looking for some interesting patterns and effects.
Tuesday – Gaming – The Nintendo switch and other games will be available for the children to play with. Encouraging teamwork and sharing!
Wednesday – Cinema Circle – We will be watching Dumbo; an elephant who has enormous ears. A mouse comes to his rescue, he motivates him so that he can make full use of his potential. We will be making elephant mosaics!
Thursday – Den Building – Next week we will have a sleepover them. Your child can bring their PJ’s to change into. Our dens will be cosy and relaxing.
Thursday – Animation – Next week your child can bring in any items from home to use to create their film.
Friday – Baking – We will be baking sausage rolls; we’ll be rolling out flaky pastry and we’ll be adding our sausages ready to roll up and bake!!
Outside activities all week: There will be connect 4, giant Duplo, the mud kitchen, construction vehicles, football and Meccano.
Have a lovely weekend!
Kind regards
The Playhouse Team
