Dear Parents / Carers
COVID Update:
Here is the link to the latest Government Guidance for OOSC Settings: Guidance for parents and carers of children attending out-of-school settings during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
Children & PCR tests – If your child has a PCR test or tests positive on a lateral flow, please can you let us know and please confirm the result. Thank you.
This Week – It’s been another busy week of activities in the Playhouse. Guess Who has been a popular game and the pool table has been out throughout the week. The children have enjoyed playing with playdough too. In the garden football continues to be the favourite outdoor activity but there have been other construction activities and outside games such as bowling and Connect 4.
Monday – Forest School – We had a woodworking theme in our Forest school, and we made our very own hedgehogs using wooden shapes. The children added nails for their feet and spikes; the children had great ‘safe’ fun using the hammers and nails. Some of our hedgehogs were named and hopefully they’ve made it home safely!
Tuesday – Science Society – We were pleased it was a breezy day so we were able to test the windmills we had made as we investigated wind! To make the windmills we decorated squares of paper, marked and cut about a quarter of the way from each corner into the middle. The next step was to fold every other corner into the middle without creasing the paper and glue into place. The last step was to push a drawing pin through the centre of the paper and onto a cardboard tube, we covered the sharp end with blue tack. We took our newly made windmills outside. They worked and the wind made them spin really fast!
Tuesday – Gaming – Mario is the most popular game again this week. There’s been lots of teamwork and sharing!
Wednesday – Cinema Circle – This week we watched The Lego Movie 2 – The Second Part and enjoyed their popcorn movie snack. The children had an awesome time and enjoyed designing their own Lego characters. There have been some great building activities too, some fabulous master builders.
Thursday – Den Building – In our Den building this week there were some fantastic fantasy roleplays in a change to our planned session. One of the den’s was a fortress where it was being protected from the Barbarians!! There were campfires and we finished off enjoying cookies and cream.
Thursday – Animating – This week we attempted to use playdough for our films but found it a rather difficult material to work with! We managed to make a film where one playdough monster absorbed items; its glasses disappeared and another exploded! They both then merged to make one monster where it then attacked the screen. It was a very sticky, messy session but great fun to try! Take a look on facebook for the video!
Friday – Baking – This afternoon in our baking session we will be making Tortilla Quiches; we will use tortillas instead of pastry and the children can add ham or salami to their filling of whisked egg and cheese. We’ll bake for 15 minutes!
Next Week – Next week we continue with our themed activities. We will also be caring for our garden wildlife, making sure they have food and water.
Monday – Forest School – We will be having a fire themed session. The children will be getting involved in making a fire with kindling and we will talk about being ‘fire safe’. We will have jacket potatoes and the children will be responsible for cooking their beans on the fire.
Tuesday – Science – This week we will be printing with shaving foam and food colouring, and we’ll be investigating how the patterns are transferred onto paper.
Tuesday – Gaming – The Nintendo switch and other games will be available for the children to play with. Encouraging teamwork and sharing!
Wednesday – Cinema Circle – We will be watching The Secret Life of Pets! We will have a Vets role play with lots of dogs and cats! The children will be able to make their own pom pom animals to bring home.
Thursday – Den Building – This week we will be enjoying picnic food .. pizza and cooking apples with honey on the campfire. Our dens will be freestyle this week and the children will be collecting their own resources from the garden. Will the Barbarians plan another attack this week?
Thursday – Animation – The children will be able to find and use resources of their choice in our animation session this week. Let’s see what our budding animators can find!
Friday – Baking – We will be baking our very own heart shaped Valentines pizza’s. We will be making our own passata and topping our pizzas with toppings of our choice.
Outside activities all week: There will be connect 4, giant Duplo, the mud kitchen, construction vehicles, football and Meccano.
Have a lovely weekend!
Kind regards
The Playhouse Team
