OOSC – Weekly Update 6th May 2022

Dear Parents / Carers

COVID – If your child or a family member tests positive for COVID via an LFD or PCR, please can you let us know. Thank you.

Absent Child – If your child won’t be attending a booked session (Breakfast & OOSC) for any reason, please can you let us know, either email or phone in. This is important for your child’s wellbeing and safeguarding. Many thanks.

NEW DATE: Quiz Night – The Playhouse Committee are holding a Quiz Night on Saturday 9th July 2022. Please see the attached flyer for more details.

Fabric – Do you have any spare fabric? We will soon be making fabric flowers in our Craft club and need off cuts of fabric approx. 6 inches in diameter. If you have any fabric, please don’t hesitate to bring it in. Many thanks.

Lost Property – Please speak to a member of staff if you have any lost property and would like to see what we have. We have asked the children but, we still have a few unclaimed items.

This Week – We had another lovely week outside in the garden except for Wednesday; it was raining so we started with loom bands, colouring, and the pool table inside until the rain cleared and we were able to do some gardening. The children created some lovely artwork to celebrate Mrs S’s birthday! Outside, we’ve had the usual activities taking place.

Science Society –
We made magic spinners to see if we could turn bright colours white! We cut out cup sized circles and marked out 8 equal segments. Each segment was coloured in alternating colours of red, blue, and green. A pencil was pushed through the centre of the circle, it was held between both palms, and it was spun … the colours disappeared into grey and white. We talked about why this happened … our brain can’t separate the colours as the object is spinning so quickly!

Wednesday – Gardening & Forest School – The weather delayed our activities for a while but, we started work on our new dinosaur garden area.

Thursday – Den Building – The children created their own cosy dens into comfortable ‘storytelling zones’. The children chose books from our library, some read to their friends, some read quietly. A lovely relaxing time in their own space.
Thursday – Craft Club – We made dragonflies using pipe cleaners and coloured beads. We bent the pipe cleaners at the bottom to create a stopper. Coloured beads were added and then wings attached by twisting on more pipe cleaners. A dragonfly head was created using the remaining pipe cleaner. We had lots of beautiful, unique dragonflies!

Friday – Baking – This afternoon we will be making jam and lemon curd tarts. The children will be rolling out pastry, they will be using cutters, they will fill with jam or curd and add decorations if they wish!

Next Week – We will have a lot of outdoor activities and we’ll be making the most of our garden!

Monday – Woodwork & Construction – We will continue making our bird boxes. We are hoping to paint them next week too.
Tuesday – Science Society – We will be making a ‘childhood favourite’, string telephones. We will be thinking about what makes them work J.
Wednesday – Gardening & Forest School – We will be making a bug hotel and we will put up our bird boxes near the Fairy and dinosaur gardens. We will keep on top of our weeding too!
Thursday – Den Building – We will inspire the children to create their own tents and our theme will be ‘Camping’.
Thursday – Craft Club – We will be making fabric flowers; we will simply sew fabric circles together and we’ll finish off with a button to secure it all in place.
Friday – Baking – We will be making meat kebabs and vegetable kebabs and a side salad! The meat kebabs will be made using minced beef, herbs and spices and will be added to a skewer for the children to bring home and cook.  The children will prepare a salad from cucumber, tomatoes, lettuce and a dressing.

Outside activities all week: There will be connect 4, giant Duplo, the mud kitchen, construction vehicles, football, and Meccano.

Have a lovely weekend!
Kind regards
The Playhouse Team
