This Week – The changeable weather has made for an interesting week in the OOSC. Den building took place in the snow! When the weather improved football, construction, mud kitchen and hook a duck took place outside. Inside we have been doing Easter colouring and making Easter wreaths, as well as using the construction toys, board games and loom bands. The pool table and darts have also been out throughout the week, and we had fun dancing. We also announced the winners of our Easter colouring competition.

Monday – Forest School –
This week we were busy whittling sticks into magical wands. We found some great resources in the garden. We removed the bark with our peelers and decorated them with paint and ribbons. We also made Easter trees using willow.
Tuesday – Science Society – This week we had an egg-citing Easter themed activity. The children were tasked with creating an item to get an egg safely down a zip wire using recycling. What the children created had to move freely down the wire and hold the egg safely without it falling out or breaking. The children came up with some different ideas and designs – some of which looked like they wouldn’t work but actually did and some which looked amazing but dropped the egg! We discovered that balance had a lot to do with success; we also needed to consider which way the egg holder went down the wire. We had a few smashed eggs but a lot of fun!!
Tuesday – Gaming – Mario is still the most popular game. There’s been lots of teamwork and sharing!
Wednesday – Cinema Circle – The children watched The Gruffalo’s Child; we had a very calm evening and some of the children nearly feel asleep.
Thursday – Den Building – We had a ‘river’ and ‘fishing’ theme. We created ‘fishing hideouts’; the children relaxed after their busy den building. They were quiet and calm by the river while they tried to catch fish .. Charlie caught a crab!!
Thursday – Animating – The snow prevented us from animating outside this week. The children decided to use the dinosaurs inside to create their films.
Friday – Baking – This afternoon we will be making Chocolate Easter nests. We will break up shredded wheat into a bowl, we will add melted chocolate and the children will mould them into cake cases to create their nests. Small eggs will be added for that finishing touch!

Next Term – We have some new themed activities this term! We will have a lot of outdoor science activities! For our keen animators, Animation will return in the Autumn Term.

Wednesday – Gardening & Forest School – We will be planting runner beans in pots and the children will be able to bring them home. We will also plant some in our garden so that we can care for them, watch them grow and harvest them.
Thursday – Den Building – We will have an Afternoon Tea & Coffee Shop theme and we will serve our refreshments and cakes in our dens.
Thursday – Craft Club – We will be creating Blossom art; we will be using paint, tissue paper, wool, and twigs to create beautiful blossom designs.
Friday – Baking – We will be making our own bread. There’ll be lots of mixing and shaping. The children can choose their own design.

Outside activities all week: There will be connect 4, giant Duplo, the mud kitchen, construction vehicles, football, and Meccano.

Have a lovely Easter!
Kind regards
The Playhouse Team
