Severe Weather

Dear Parents / Carers

With the weather changing and the days turning a little colder, we thought it was a good time to tell you about our procedures in the event of severe weather. We will always try to keep both Preschool and the Out of School Club open but we must ensure the safety of children, parents and staff both on site at the Playhouse and those having to travel home.

In the event of the Playhouse having to close due to hazardous and unsafe conditions, please be aware of the following:

  • We will be closed if John Clare Primary School is closed.
  • Wherever possible, a decision will be reached before 7.15am. Details will be communicated via Facebook and email.
  • Ros Sowinski will be available at the Playhouse from 7.15am to answer any calls.
  • Details of the John Clare Primary School closure will be broadcast on Heart FM (102.7FM), Connect FM and BBC Radio Cambridgeshire, on Twitter @JohnClarePri and via Parentmail for parents of the school.
  • In the event of worsening weather conditions during the day, we will contact you by phone asking you to collect your children.

John Clare will grit all of the main pathways. Please stick to the paths as some untreated areas may be very slippery. We are very keen that your children enjoy playtime outside during the winter, as long as it’s safe and the children are dressed appropriately. Please ensure that your child/children have:

  • A winter coat
  • A change of footwear with good grip e.g. wellies / snow boots
  • Gloves, Hat and scarf

If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Playhouse or Out of School Club Team.

Kind regards
The Playhouse Team
